⚠️ Big Sur Road Alert & Verification Tip

Due to winter rains, landslides periodically affect sections of Highway 1 through Big Sur. Always check the official Caltrans QuickMap or district highway alerts before your departure. If a detour is in place, you can still access Northern Big Sur from Monterey or Southern Big Sur via Cambria.

Days 1 & 2: San Francisco to Santa Cruz & Monterey

Pick up your rental car in San Francisco. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge for photos, then point your wheels south down Highway 1 through Half Moon Bay.


Days 3 & 4: Big Sur Coastline to San Simeon & Cambria

This is the most breathtaking stretch of coastline in North America. Leave early to savor every scenic vista.


Days 5 & 6: Santa Barbara & The American Riviera

Continue through Morro Bay and the rolling vineyard hills of San Luis Obispo before arriving in sun-drenched Santa Barbara.
